Issues of The Courier-Gazette from 1882 - 1960 have been digitized by the Historical Society in partnership with the Rockland Public Library. This valuable tool offers users nearly a centuries worth of Rockland's history through the pages of its newspaper of record.
Dale Schierholt's documentary traces the history of Rockland's Strand Theatre. Beginning, in the early twenties when Ida Dondis and her husband built a new theater for Rockland on the site of a devastating fire, to its evolution into today's community supported non profit.
“Rockland’s Strand” is a film for those who grew up with the theatre as well as community members who have more recently made Rockland their home and the Strand their theater.

This film from documentary filmmaker Dale Schierholt was cowritten with Rockland author John Bird based on his book Rockland Maine: Rise and Renewal. Joining Schierholt and Bird on the production is local video historian Wayne Gray.
The film chronicles the history of the city of Rockland from its settlement as a part of Thomaston to the city it is today, by tracing the ebbs and flows of its evolution through its ties to the sea.
